Texas Tobacco Report Card: All F's

On Wednesday, the American Lung Association released its 19th annual "State of Tobacco Control" report, and no state fared worse than Texas.

The state received failing grades in each of the five major categories, including Funding for State Tobacco Prevention Programs, Strength of Smokefree Workplace Laws, Level of State Tobacco Taxes, Coverage and Access to Services to Quit Tobacco and Ending the Sale of All Flavored Tobacco Products, which is a new category in this year's report.

See the report here.

The report also includes recommendations from the Lung Association, including raising state cigarette taxes by $1.50 and implementing new taxes on e-cigarettes and other vaping products. Texas currently does not tax those items.

Texas Advocacy Director Charlie Gagen discussed the new report with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
