President Donald Trump did not place his hand on the Bible during his inauguration, despite First Lady Melania Trump holding two Bibles.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued the presidential oath to President Trump, who did not place his hand on either Bible.

The U.S. Constitution does not require the president to place their hand on the Bible during the oath of office, as it prohibits any religious test for qualification to office.

Article VI, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution states that officials are bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution without requiring a religious test.
