Texas State Representative Candy Noble has drawn a challenger in next year's primary. Noble has represented Texas House District 89.

Noble was first elected in 2018 and reelected in 2020 and 2022. Noble ran unopposed in the Republican primary last year, but she has drawn a challenger for the 2024 primary.

Abraham George is leaving his post as chair of the Collin County Republican Party to run against Noble.

"We are going through a place in time when our representatives in Austin are not really representing us here at home," said George in an interview with KRLD Tuesday morning.

George said his top priority is border security followed by a desire to "stop giving power to Democrats in the Texas House. The [Democratic] Party has gone extreme, far left."

George launched his campaign at a committee meeting Monday. During the same meeting, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton endorsed George.

"He knew I supported him during the impeachment process many times, but I don't think he was recruiting anyone," said George during the interview.

George said Paxton had been talking with candidates to learn more about why they decided to run.

"He didn't ask me to run against her," George said. "I actually called him after I made the decision and asked him if I could have his support."

In May, Noble voted to impeach Paxton, sending the case to the Texas Senate for trial, where Paxton was acquitted last month.

"This was an incredibly difficult vote as, for most of us, Ken has been a longtime friend," Noble wrote in a letter in May which was also signed by Representatives Jeff Leach, Matt Shaheen, Justin Holland and Frederick Frazier. "And without question, Ken has been an aggressive and effective warrior defending Texans against federal overreach. Because of that, this was a vote we wish we didn't have to make and a vote we did not take lightly."

They wrote that the purpose of the impeachment was to protect the state, "not punish the offender." They wrote that they voted in favor of impeachment after a "thorough analysis of the relevant law," showed sufficient evidence for a trial.

Noble's campaign has not responded to KRLD's request for a response. The Dallas Morning News reported a statement from Noble saying she would "proudly run on my proven conservative record of passing unprecedented border security funding, banning dangerous gender modification surgeries on minors, passing the largest property tax cut in Texas history, protecting innocent Texans from predators, and a long list of additional conservative achievements."
