The University of Texas at Austin will square off against Ohio State January 10 in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. UT advanced to the College Football Playoff semifinals by beating Arizona State in the Peach Bowl this week; Ohio State beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
With the Longhorns playing just a couple hundred miles up 35 from the UT campus, fans at a Peach Bowl watch party said they expect a strong showing.
"We need to make them hear us," one said. "Because they'll show up, too."
"We've beaten [Ohio State Quarterback] Will Howard before," another said. "I think we can beat him again."
But another fan says Arizona State put up a strong fight in the Peach Bowl, taking the game to double overtime, while Ohio State cruised to a 20 point win over top ranked Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
"We struggle with putting teams away," he says. "It's going to bite you in the butt at some point. It's just a matter of will it happen this year or not?"
Ohio State has two native Texans on its roster: Offensive Tackle Donovan Jackson is from Houston, and Place Kicker Jayden Fielding is from League City, south of Houston.
Longhorns fans say they have a shorter trip from Austin, but they hope to convince others to make the trip because Ohio State fans have shown they will travel anywhere with the team. Thursday afternoon, the cheapest tickets on StubHub for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic were $289 for standing room.
Other locations ranged from $594 for seats in the upper deck to $1,825 at midfield in the lower deck and $25,462 for a suite at field level.
