The mayor of Austin says Texas is the perfect state for Amtrak to expand its service.
Mayor Kirk Watson testified before a U-S House subcommittee on the need for more transportation options in the state. He says the "Texas Triangle" of Dallas, San Antonio and Houston is growing in population, but the passenger rail options are not keeping up.
He shares that Austin is also a growing population and is in need of more transportation options.
He urged members of Congress to consider more money for Amtrak projects through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that was passed in 2021. He argues that Texas would benefit from the additional funding.
