East Texas boy killed by blown down tree

This week's high winds led to the death of an East Texas boy.

11-year-old Rustan "Rusty" Wood of Tyler was killed when a tree blown down by the high winds fell on him as he was riding a go-kart, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday per KLTV. Officials say he died instantly.

Smith County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Larry Christian says Rusty's sister was riding a four-wheeler with him when the accident happened and saw it happen but was not injured herself

"They were just on the property enjoying the day," Christian said according to KLTV. "I believe the sister is the one who saw what happened, which is a tragedy in itself."

The boy was home-schooled and did not attend a school district.
