Officials say nearly 300 hundred gravestones were damaged and many of them were tipped over or broken.
Waxahachie Director of Parks and Leisure Services says, "this is by far the worst case of vandalism we have seen in the City Cemetery. Many of the markers that were affected are very old, and repairs will be difficult and costly."
Most of the damaged markers were in the older, historic part of the grounds and some of them are more than 100 years old.
