Parents packed a school board meeting in Uvalde, Texas Monday night demanding accountability about the police response the day of the masscre at an elememtary school last month. They are also demanding changes.
The board had to move the meeting to an auditorium to accommodate the massive turnout.
The emotional parents who addressed the board say campus' across the district are not safe. Many also called for accountability and wanted the board to fire Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde CISD police chief who was in charge the day of the shooting.
Several signs at the meeting read "Fire Pete Arredondo" and "Enough is Enough."
And tonight in Uvalde, it's part two as City Council meets to consider a leave of absence for Arredondo who just happens to be the city council's newest member.
According to the agenda of tonight's special meeting, the Uvalde City Council will consider granting a leave of absence to Councilman Arredondo.
Arredondo has been roundly criticized for his handling of the massacre at Robb Elementary School that left 19 kids and two teachers dead. He was elected to the City Council prior to the mass shooting.
Arredondo was sworn in privately, and he was absent during the one and only council meeting held since his swearing-in. Following that meeting two weeks ago, Mayor Don McLaughlin told reporters that he and the council cannot remove him, even if they wanted to.
The agenda for the Tuesday night meeting doesn't make clear whether the leave of absence is just for council meetings or if it's for all of his other duties as councilman.
