Several Route 66 neon signs will be restored along the historic pathway through Amarillo.
The city announced those plans in collaboration with the Texas Historical Commission and they'll have nearly $300,000 in funding for the project. City officials hope it will boost the local economy and draw attention to Amarillo's small businesses.
From KFDA, the city is also hard at work preparing for the Route 66 Centennial coming up next year and saw this as a perfect opportunity.
Amarillo leaders are in talks with a sign company and hope to finish the restoration project by this summer.
