It's been a whole week since a Hidalgo County killer escaped from a prison bus in Leon County, about midway between Dallas and Houston.
Officials say Gonzalo Lopez attacked the guard driving the bus, commandeered the bus and drove it about a mile before crashing it near Centerville.
Lopez escaped across an open field and has not been seen since.
An armed, mounted posse has been scouring a very rugged, rural and heavily forested portion of Leon County assisted by dogs, helicopters and infra-red imagery.
Despite the search, Lopez is still on the run.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has published two recent photos of Lopez, snapped just as he was climbing aboard that prison bus a week ago today.
Because of the search, prisoner visitation has been canceled for today at more than 40 Texas prison units.
