
A large share of the surveillance cameras guarding the border with Mexico are reportedly not working.
According to a memo from the Border Patrol, nearly one-third of its surveillance camera systems are not working. The statement says surveillance cameras require significant maintenance and upgrades.
Border Patrol Agent Christina Smallwood says agents always operate knowing tech failure is a possibility.
There is no schedule for the cameras in the Rio Grande Valley to be updated, but the Border Patrol says they will deploy an additional 15 surveillance towers to the southern border in the coming months.
