A South Texas man has died from a rattlesnake bite suffered during the annual Rattlesnake Roundup in Freer, about 80 miles west of Corpus Christi.
Reports say Eugene De Leon Senior was demonstrating how to handle a rattlesnake in front of a crowd when the snake bit him.
He was rushed to a local hospital by helicopter but did not survive.
On social media, his family says "he gained his wings doing what he loved doing" and that he had a "passion for snake handling" at the Freer event.
