
The research foundation of the Commonwealth Fund says Texas is the 49th worst state when it comes to women's health issues, above only Mississippi. The group's Sarah Collins says Texas is one of ten states that have not expanded Medicaid.
Collins also says Texas has the highest rate of uninsured women in the nation, one in five don't have coverage, and has too few maternity healthcare workers. It ranks 49th on pre-natal care visits.
She says the Texas abortion ban is part of the reason why the state has among the fewest number of maternity healthcare workers relative to the number of women of reproductive age. She the ban will lead to fewer doctors willing to practice in Texas.
