Three new Republican justices backed by Attorney General Ken Paxton were elected to the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals on Tuesday, keeping the balance of power on the court firmly in GOP control.
The court has nine justices, and three of the justices that were up for reelection this year angered Paxton in 2021 when they ruled against him in a voter fraud case.
Paxton campaigned for opponents in the primary and succeeded in all three cases.
Chief Justice Sharon Keller was defeated in the spring by former judge David Schenck who received 58% of the vote on Tuesday.
In Place 7, Gina Parker defeated Nancy Mulder with 58% of the vote, and in Place 8 Lee Finley garnered 59% of the vote to defeat Chika Anyiam.
In Place 8, Collin County Lawyer Lee Finley beat an incumbent to face off against Dallas County judge Chika Anyiam.
