Texas is suing the federal government over new EPA rules designed to limit the production of methane by the oil and gas industry.

The regulations aim to reduce methane emissions through measures like a ban on the routine flaring of natural gas produced at new oil wells.

They also require oil companies to monitor well sites for leaks and to set up a program to use third-party remote sensing to detect large methane releases.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says the new rules would require oil and gas producers to drastically update their infrastructure, and they don't comply with the procedures set out in the Clean Air Act.
