Texas homeowners could see around $360 in property tax savings from bills passed by the Texas Senate.
Tasked by Governor Abbott with delivering Texans $10 billion in property tax savings, the Texas Senate has passed on the State House two bills they believe will do just that. State Senator Paul Bettencourt authored the legislation that he says is designed to deliver the average Texas homeowner $363 in property tax savings.
“Senate Bill 4 and its companion SJR 2 will increase the Texas school homestead exemption to a record $140,000 for 5.7 million Texas homeowners,” said Bettencourt as he explained the legislation from the Senate floor.
The bills passed unanimously with the support of Senate Democrats. “Thank you for bringing tax relief that all Texans can feel and appreciate,” said State Senator Jose Menendez before passage.
The bills are now headed to the State House of Representatives, who are expected to start rolling out bills in committee now that House Speaker Dustin Burrows has handed out the committee assignments.
Property Tax relief was Governor Abbott’s top emergency item for the State Legislature.
