Tens of thousands of people are still without power in East Texas, sitting in this excessive heat. And many home and businesses are still days away from having power restored.

As of Monday afternoon, officials report more than 78,000 customers still did not have electricity. In Gregg County, where the town of Longview is the county seat, they had the largest number of customers without power at more than 24,000.

Harrison County, which includes part of eastern Longview and Marshall, had about 12,000 still are with no electricity.

The Southwestern Power Company (SWEPCO) was estimating the power may not be restored to some customers in Longview, Marshall and several other cities until 10 p.m. Friday night.

But KLTV television reports SWEPCO spokesman Mark Robinson said that means 95% of customers should have their power restored by then.
