Space X 's launch of its 7th Starship rocket from South Texas Thursday afternoon did not go as planned.
The launch window opened at Boca Chica Beach at 4 p.m. however it was quickly reported it had been a failure as the rocket experienced "a rapid unscheduled disassembly during its ascent burn," Space X reported via X.
Starship flight test 7 was meant to be the seventh flight test of a SpaceX Starship launch vehicle, according to SpaceX. "After having previously supported Booster 12 during flight 5, engine # 314 will be reflown on Booster 14. This will likely be the final suborbital test flight of Starship, as ships will need to be placed into LEO to be caught, which is planned to occur on Flight 8."
The hope was the Super Heavy booster may attempt, a return to earth and a tower catch on the Starbase pad. Yet another attempt to recycle the boosters.
The company assured they would review data to understand root cause of the issue today.
