A couple of nice days ahead for DFW before another strong cold front arrives

A couple of nice days ahead.
A couple of nice days ahead.
National Weather Service - Fort Worth

After a chilly day yesterday, a brief warm up will greet you today and tomorrow. Plenty of sunshine will be felt with highs near 60゚! Even warmer tomorrow. We'll start the morning off chilly again, with temps falling into the upper thirties to low forties. Temps will warm up rapidly by afternoon. How does 70゚ sound?

Unfortunately, our warm up will be short lived. A strong cold front will plow through the area after midnight into early Friday morning. Temperatures will be in the fifties very early Friday morning, then quickly fall into the thirties by late morning into the afternoon. There will also be precipitation breaking out behind the front to the west of north Texas by late morning. This area of precipitation will move east through the afternoon. As of now, it looks like it'll start off as a chilly light rain in DFW, transition to light sleet, and then possibly a quick burst of light snow as it ends late afternoon. Right now, I'm not concerned about poor travel conditions across DFW and points south and east. As of this morning, the latest data suggests there could be some slick travel Friday into Saturday morning northwest of a Sherman to Denton to Weatherford line. Please keep in mind we're still a little over 48 hours out from this possible Winter weather event. Data is subject to change. The slick road dividing line I'm forecasting northwest of DFW right now, could easily slip a bit farther southeast over the next 48 hours.

Any precipitation we see looks to be on the light side, but it doesn't take much ice or snow to cause travel problems. This will be a fast moving system and by Friday evening, skies will already start to clear, but temperatures will be very cold Saturday morning. Readings will fall into the mid to upper twenties. It will remain cool Saturday afternoon with sunshine. Highs will touch the 50゚ mark.

Warming temperatures start Sunday with highs in the low low to mid sixties. Monday we reach the low to mid seventies.

A weak cold front comes through Tuesday morning, dropping highs into the mid to upper sixties, which is right at average for this time of the year.

I will continue to analyze the new data as it streams in over the next 48 hours. Whatever we do get will be short lived and any travel problems will be confined to the 2nd half of Friday into early Saturday morning.
