Above average temperatures are expected to persist through Friday, with a shift to cooler weather anticipated over the weekend and a slight chance of showers early Saturday morning as a cold front moves into the area.

Good morning. I would like to extend my condolences to those affected by the devastating grass fires in the Texas panhandle, western Oklahoma, and southern Kansas yesterday. Unfortunately, the critical grass fire danger persists today and tomorrow, particularly in areas of the Panhandle, south plains and far west Texas. If traveling through these regions, please exercise caution by avoiding driving through dust storms, being mindful of high-profile vehicles on north-south oriented roadways, and ensuring that cigarette butts are fully extinguished in a container of water within vehicles. Most grass fires can be prevented and are often caused by human negligence.

Notably, areas northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth region are under a critical grass fire danger watch on Thursday. Please adhere to the safety guidelines outlined above.

Our weather forecast for North Texas indicates a quiet period over the next seven days, with two cold fronts expected to impact the region. The first front will pass through late Thursday into Friday morning, while a stronger front will arrive before noon on Saturday. In the interim, above-average temperatures and ample sunshine are expected to prevail.

Currently, an area of low clouds is moving into the region from the Gulf, affecting the eastern third of North Texas over the next few hours. These clouds are expected to dissipate by mid-to-late morning, similar to yesterday's pattern. Temperatures are currently in the 50s to low 60s, with plenty of sunshine anticipated throughout the day and afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s. A similar forecast is expected for tomorrow, although the low clouds are not anticipated to be as prevalent.

By Thursday evening into Friday morning, a weak front will move into the area from the northeast, leading to a cooldown with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s on Friday. A stronger cold front will arrive before noon on Saturday, bringing a slight chance of showers, mainly northeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. North winds will pick up, gusting to 30 mph on Saturday as cold air moves in from the central Plains states. Afternoon highs will peak around noon in the upper 60s before slowly falling into the 30s by Sunday morning. As of now, a freeze is not expected across the area.

Sunday is expected to be significantly cooler, with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. A light freeze is anticipated for Monday morning, with winds dying down under clear skies. Morning lows will range from 30 to 35, with the warmest temperatures in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Plenty of sunshine will dominate Monday, with highs in the upper 50s.

Another chilly start is expected for Tuesday morning, with readings in the mid-to-upper 30s. Afternoon highs will warm back into the 70s.

Once again, please exercise caution when traveling through western Texas or the Panhandle today and try to enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got.
