We are approaching the summer season, and our weather patterns will reflect this, particularly as we transition into next week.
TGIF ladies and gentlemen. We will encounter a couple of upper-level disturbances over the next couple of days, after which conditions will dry out as a strong ridge of high pressure establishes itself over the area for most of next week. Be prepared for heat index values exceeding 100 degrees.
Currently, we are experiencing areas of low clouds and very muggy conditions, with temperatures in the low 70s. There are also a couple of showers developing near the Red River Valley ahead of our next fast-moving upper-level disturbance approaching from the north out of Oklahoma. I cannot rule out scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder in areas through early afternoon, although most areas will remain dry. Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s, with heat index values near 100 degrees.
Saturday's forecast appears uneventful, with morning clouds giving way to afternoon sun. High temperatures will reach the low 90s again, with heat index values near 100 degrees. Remember to stay hydrated if you plan to work outdoors.
Our next fast-moving upper-level disturbance will approach early Father's Day morning. A complex of storms will form in Northern Oklahoma late Saturday night and move towards North Texas early Sunday morning. Currently, there is a decent chance these storms will weaken significantly as they approach from the north before daybreak. I will continue to monitor the situation, but I am not overly concerned.
Any lingering boundaries on Sunday afternoon and evening, particularly to our Northeast, will produce another area of showers and storms. Currently, I expect these to remain east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and not impact outdoor plans for Father's Day. Be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and dress in light-colored, loose-fitting clothing with a hat to stay cooler.
Next week, a strong area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will dominate North Texas. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s, with heat index values around 105 degrees, approaching heat advisory criteria. Stay tuned for updates.
A slight change in the weather pattern may occur by next Thursday, with a few showers and storms returning to the area. High temperatures will continue to be in the mid-90s. Have a terrific Father's Day weekend and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
