Everybody's asking me, "Dan when's the first bit of cold front coming?" I answer, "Not for a while!" As much as I want a strong cold front to plow through the area, unfortunately, we're stuck in this hot and dry weather pattern for the next 7 to 10 days.
The jet stream, which steers the weather systems around the globe, has taken a trip well to the north of Texas. A large bubble of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is stuck below it and will continue to hold its grip across the state for the next 7 to 10 days. This means the air will continue to sink, no rain can form, and above-average temperatures will be felt.
Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s again today, mid-90s will prevail Wednesday through early next week. Morning low temperatures will be comfortable with readings in the upper 60s to low 70s through the period.
Also, due to the light wind in the upper levels of the atmosphere and the ridge of high pressure overhead, the air quality will be terrible around here at least through tomorrow. The wind should pick up a little bit towards the end of the week and into the weekend.

The opening weekend of The State Fair of Texas is arriving soon. Please make sure you stay hydrated and don't forget to wear light-colored loose-fitted clothing, sunscreen and a hat. I typically go to the fair during the last week, when it's a heck of a lot cooler! Hang in there folks, we usually see our first decent cold front the second week of October.
In other news, the Gulf of Mexico is quiet right now. No tropical development is expected over the next few days, but there is an area of disturbed weather south of Mobile Alabama that I will continue to monitor through the weekend and in the early next week.
