Beautiful weather for North Texas on Friday, wildfire threat remains to the west

Wildfire threat Friday
National Weather Service

A chilly start to Friday morning will give way to a beautiful day and a rapid warm-up. A few strong thunderstorms are possible south and east of North Texas late Sunday evening.

Temperatures fell into the mid-35 to mid-40s across North Texas on Friday morning under a clear sky. It will be sunny and 75 degrees on Friday, making for a spectacular day. However, a Red Flag Warning is in effect west of DFW, indicating high fire danger in these areas through the weekend.

Another breezy day is expected on Saturday, with plenty of sunshine. Afternoon highs will be warmer, topping out in the low 80s.

Increasing clouds on Sunday will precede a weak cold front, which will move through the area late Sunday afternoon into the evening hours. There is a small chance for some strong to severe storms just south and east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area along and ahead of the front. Afternoon highs will top out in the low 80s once again, with winds shifting to the north by late afternoon.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be pleasant, although it will be slightly cooler on Monday, with afternoon highs in the mid-70s. Temperatures will rebound to the mid-80s on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, a strong upper-level disturbance will move across the area, increasing shower and thunderstorm chances. A few of these could be strong to severe. Afternoon highs will remain in the mid-80s.

On Thursday, we will be between storm systems, with partly cloudy conditions and highs returning to the mid-80s. As of now, better rain chances are expected next Friday.
