Poor air quality, a hazy sky, a slight storm chance, increasing wind, and building heat… those are your weather stories across north Texas over the next 7 days.
We're starting off in the upper sixties to mid seventies at this hour with nothing on weather radar. That will change later this afternoon, as a trough of low pressure swings through the central plain states. This will create scattered showers and thunderstorms during peak heating today, with the best chance towards the Red River and from Waco and point south.
A few showers and storms possible today as an upper disturbances rolls through. Any stronger storms during the afternoon could have gusty downburst winds. Highs mainly in the lower 90s. #dfwwx #ctxwx pic.twitter.com/dCirS7XLFq

Right now I'm calling for 25% coverage here across DFW. Any storms that do for will contain dangerous lightning and brief gusty wind. Storms will wane after sunset.
After today, the faucets shut off and the heat builds across north Texas. High pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will dominate our weather this weekend and for most of next week. Daytime highs will creep up into the mid nineties today through Saturday and into the upper nineties Sunday through Friday of next week. Factor in the humidity, the heat index values will approach 105゚, close to heat advisory criteria. Also, a southerly wind will pick up this weekend, mixing the air up a little bit, so it won't be as hazy.
Our next pattern change may arrive by the middle of August, or next weekend as another rare cold front possibly sags into the area. This will increase rain chances and cool temperatures down again. Some of the extended data, or the weather trend is showing above above normal precipitation and below normal temperatures the 2nd half of August. Hoping this pans out, and it just might!
