Changes coming for you Labor Day weekend

North Texas 7-day Forecast for August 28, 2025
North Texas 7-day Forecast for August 28, 2025
National Weather Service

A complex forecast is unfolding, commencing this evening and persisting through the holiday weekend. A rare late August cold front will gradually move through the area, producing showers and storms intermittently through Sunday.

Good morning. Temperatures currently range from 75 to 80 degrees, with relatively high humidity. Radar imagery is clear, and rain is not anticipated for most of the day, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 90s. Heat index values will peak at 103 degrees.

This evening's forecast is straightforward, with scattered showers and storms developing along the front as it moves into North Texas. These storms may become severe, with hail smaller than quarters, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain. Approximately 50 percent of the area can expect rain.

The front will shift southward overnight, affecting the southern half of North Texas on Friday. It will then gradually move southwestward throughout the day, leading to more showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. The front's position will dictate the weather patterns. Currently, areas south and east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area are expected to experience the highest coverage of precipitation. Afternoon highs will vary depending on the location relative to the front, ranging from near 80 north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area to mid-to-upper 80s in the area and into the 90s in the south.
I will continue to monitor radar trends and provide updates throughout the day.

The weekend forecast is contingent upon the front's position. As of now, more widespread precipitation is expected west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in central Texas. Scattered showers and storms are anticipated across North Texas, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s, making for a pleasant conclusion to August.

Labor Day is expected to be decent, with slightly warmer temperatures and partly cloudy conditions. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s.

Another cold front is anticipated to move into the area on Tuesday, bringing temperatures below average. However, significant rainfall is not expected with this front.

Stay cool today and enjoy the below-average temperatures and precipitation in your area throughout the holiday weekend!
