Cool mornings and pleasant afternoons through the week

Good morning, North Texas!

Cool mornings and warm afternoons will be our weather story this week and into the weekend. An area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is building in from northern Mexico. This ridge will help suppress cloud cover, keep rain chances at bay, and maintain above-average temperatures through the weekend and into early next week.

Temperatures have fallen into the 50s across North Texas this morning under mainly clear skies. It’s a beautiful start to the day! Yesterday, we topped out in the mid-70s, and we’ll see a gradual warming trend as the week progresses.

By Thursday and Friday, along with the weekend, afternoon temperatures will climb into the 80s. Some areas west of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex could even reach the mid-80s by Friday and over the weekend.

South winds will gradually pick up, generally blowing at 10 to 20 mph, with higher gusts possible this weekend.

If you have outdoor plans or are heading to any football games, go for it! The weather looks great for outdoor activities. You might want to bring a light jacket for Friday Night Lights, especially if you’re staying through the second half.

Looking ahead to next week, our weather pattern could finally change. An area of low pressure is expected to dig into the Desert Southwest, potentially bringing a stronger cold front into North Texas sometime Tuesday or Wednesday.

The big question is what happens when that system arrives. The track and speed of the upper-level low, along with the timing of the cold front, will determine whether we see a chilly rain across parts of the area or the potential for severe weather.

For now, enjoy the beautiful weather! We have several more days of dry conditions and warming temperatures before our next potential weather change arrives.

Have a great day, North Texas, and remember to enjoy the weather when you can. It’s the only weather you’ve got!
