DFW records first freeze, cold rain on the way

North Texas forecast for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, 2024.
North Texas forecast for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, 2024.
National Weather Service

Temperatures hit 32 degrees Friday morning at DFW Airport, marking the first freeze of the season in North Texas. Chilly rain moves in late Friday and continues on and off through Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will warm up a little on Monday, but a strong cold front will move through on Tuesday morning dropping temperatures again into the middle of next week.

Good morning my friends and followers and TGIF! At 5:17am, DFW officially fell to 32 degres....our first freeze thi FAll! Other areas have fallen to or slightly below freezing this morning as well. There may be some patchy frost around as well. Increasing clouds today with afternoon highs approaching 50°.

By late this afternoon and especially this evening, our first area of precipitation will work its way in from the southwest. The air at the surface will be very dry as precipitation tries to reach the ground through midnight. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few sleet pellets falling from the sky before a transition to a cold rain will take place by daybreak tomorrow morning. On and off showers are in the forecast tomorrow with afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Another batch of rain will form to our south late Saturday into early Sunday morning. This will shoot off to the east of DFW through early afternoon. Precipitation totals should remain below a half inch with this next system. There may be a few places that see a little bit more. Nothing severe is expected. Slow clearing will take place from west to east during the day through Sunday evening. Afternoon highs will range from 48 to 64 from east to west. All cloud dependent.

A quick, but rapid warm up will take shape on Monday. Plenty of sunshine, breezy and mild with afternoon highs and the low to mid 70s! Don't let your guard down though, another cold front arrives early Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, it comes through dry. There may be a few snow flurries in the Panhandle, South Plains and northern Big Country before this precipitation shield falls apart as it moves SE.

Wednesday and Thursday will be windy and chilly with afternoon highs in the 50s. Morning lows will be in the 30s. Some areas may experience another freeze on Thursday morning.
