Fall starts Saturday, but it's not going to feel like it

North Texas forecast for Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
North Texas forecast for Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
National Weather Service

There are five more days until the first official day of fall, but it's not going to feel like it anytime soon. Tuesday began with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s under a clear sky and a setting full moon. A bubble of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will continue to build across the area through the week, keeping North Texas hot and dry.

Our average high now has dropped to 88°. Average low 68°. We'll be well above those numbers for the next 7 days.

Plenty of sunshine today through the end of the week with high temperatures in the low 90s today, mid 90s tomorrow, mid to upper 90s Thursday and Friday and low to mid 90s this weekend. Morning lows will be in the 70s.

By the beginning to middle of next week, it looks like we'll see a slight weather change as a cold front slides through the area. It's still way too early to tell if this front will bring us any welcome rain. At least it'll drop the temperatures in the 80s for highs and morning lows will dip into the 60s, but we're going to have to wait at least a week for that change to happen.

Typically in October, we see a series of cold fronts through the month that slowly drops our temperatures through the period. Average highs by the end of the month dip into the low 80s. Patience is a virtue. LOL.
