First day of summer brings start of warming trend in North Texas

While Dallas-Fort Worth missed out on widespread rain, it was a different story across the southern and western parts of the state, as Alberto's moisture moved out of our area. It's the first day of summer, and while a stray shower is possible Friday afternoon, it's unlikely.

The baking heat that's plagued the eastern third of the United States will shift to the west. That area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will be on top of North Texas this weekend and slowly shift to the west by Wednesday of next week. During this time frame, temperatures will continue to warm. It will reach the mid-90s on Friday and Saturday, the upper 90s on Sunday, and near 100 on Monday and Tuesday. Humidity won't be too bad through the weekend, so heat index values will be around 100-102. A bit more humidity will move in next week, so those heat index values may creep close to 105.

As this upper-level ridge drifts to the west of North Texas Wednesday, there may be a complex of storms forming in the south-central plains states Tuesday evening. There is a chance for these storms to make it into North Texas on Wednesday.

Afternoon highs may drop into the mid-90s on Wednesday and Thursday due to more cloud cover and a brief wind shift to the north. After that, temperatures start to warm once again.
