Prepare for impending rain showers, as waves of precipitation will traverse North Texas through Saturday morning. Flood watches are currently in effect until at least Thursday evening.
Exercise caution while driving and maintain a readily available umbrella across North Texas over the coming days. A robust and slow-moving upper-level disturbance is approaching from the west, precipitating the initial wave of heavy rain south of DFW, which will progress across the area throughout the morning, potentially subsiding during the afternoon. However, another wave of rain will form in the evening and persist through the early morning hours on Thursday. Temperatures are expected to struggle to reach 80°F today, dipping to the upper 60s tonight.
Conflicting data exists regarding tomorrow's rainfall coverage, with the North American model indicating widespread heavy rain and the HRRR model suggesting the heaviest rain will occur east of a Denton to Fort Worth to Cleburne line. Radar trends will provide further clarification. Regardless, a severe flooding situation is unfolding across North and East Texas over the next couple of days. High temperatures tomorrow will again struggle to reach 80°F.
A complex of storms may develop in the north on Friday morning, but more significant chances are anticipated late Friday into Saturday morning as a cold front gradually moves into the area, potentially bringing an additional one to two inches of rain. Afternoon highs on Friday will reach the mid-70s.
Following Saturday morning's rain, conditions will gradually improve by afternoon, with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 80s. Although a few late-day showers and storms are possible, most areas are expected to remain dry.
Father's Day is anticipated to be relatively decent, with morning clouds giving way to afternoon sun and highs nearing 90°F, accompanied by high humidity. A late-day shower or storm is possible but remains uncertain at this time.
Monday and Tuesday are currently expected to be uneventful, with warming temperatures and persisting humidity, leading to highs in the low to mid-90s and heat index values exceeding 100°F.
Please remain vigilant and aware of the weather, and exercise caution when encountering water-covered roadways of unknown depth, turning around to find an alternate route when necessary. Have a great day and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got
