A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for parts of Kaufman County until 7 p.m. Thursday. Potential threats include tornadoes, ping-pong sized hail and 70 mph winds.

After a cloudy Christmas Day, storm chances return Thursday across parts of North Texas. Be weather aware east and southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a level 2 out of 5 chance for severe weather is in place.

The threats will be hail, damaging wind, and isolated tornadoes.

Dallas-Fort Worth will experience cold rain with thunder, small hail, and gusty wind between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There may be a few scattered storms with small hail during the late afternoon, as the system swings through.

Temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 50s all day long.

7:30 AM UPDATE: Storms are rapidly developing to the west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area this morning. We can thank our temperatures in the 50s today for keeping most of these under severe limits as they continue to expand and intensify.

This being said, worst case scenario, some of the stronger storms may contain up to quarter size hail and 50 mph wind gusts.

Most of these developing storms will stay under severe limits, until they head into east and southeast Texas this afternoon and evening.

There is one more chance for some smaller hail across DFW later this afternoon and early evening as the whole system swings directly overhead.
