Heat Advisory today, but scattered storms return all week!

North Texas 7-day forecast for August 18, 2025
North Texas 7-day forecast for August 18, 2025
National Weather Service

We'll be flirting with the century mark the next couple of days, but I think we will underachieve by a couple of degrees. However, there's more to consider, as shower and thunderstorm activity will be increasing by the middle of the week. Is an August cold front anticipated? Yes.

Happy Monday, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you had a terrific weekend. Afternoon highs reached the mid-90s both Saturday and Sunday, not too bad for this time of year. The average high is still sitting at 96 degrees, and it will drop to 95 degrees this weekend and 94 degrees by the end of the month.

Today's forecast includes partly cloudy conditions with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s, and the heat index value will approach 105 degrees, especially in areas east of Dallas. A heat advisory is in place for much of the area for today. If you're fortunate, you may see a late-day shower or storm in your area. Good luck.

Things will start to change slowly on Tuesday and especially Wednesday as a weak cold front sags into the area. Scattered showers and storms will break out on Tuesday afternoon and evening, with coverage at about 30 percent. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 90s, and some areas may reach the 100-degree mark as compressional heating takes over ahead of the cold front.

This front will stall somewhere just south of DFW late Wednesday and Thursday, producing scattered showers and storms across the area. Coverage on Wednesday will be at 50 percent, and 40 percent on Thursday, mainly south of Interstate 20. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s, depending on cloud cover. You will cool rapidly if you see rain in your area. Again, good luck.

This front will start to dissolve on Thursday and Friday, but we will be the focal point for isolated late-day showers and storms again. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s on Thursday, and mid 90s on Friday.

Right now, I am going to keep the weekend mainly dry, with a very slight chance for a late-day shower or storm. Highs will reach the mid-90s.

Believe it or not, another cold front will sag into the area in about a week, keeping shower and thunderstorm chances in our forecast and temperatures right at or slightly below average for this time of year. Stay tuned for updates on this forecast.

Have a terrific day today, and please enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
