Medical journal JAMA published a new study that found heat-related deaths were up 117% from 1999 to 2023.
During that time period, at least 21,518 people have died from heat-related deaths.
The Centers for Disease Control found that heat-related deaths spiked in 2006 and 2011 but have steadily increased since 2016.
