Heating up through the weekend

Heating up through the weekend

Well, Mother Nature has officially hit the “copy and paste” button for North Texas weather through the weekend. ☀️ High pressure parked up in the upper atmosphere means plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures, and not much excitement in the forecast. So if your lawn looks like a jungle, your car has a year’s worth of pollen on it, or you just need an excuse to sit outside and avoid responsibilities… this is your weather window! 😎

Good morning, friends! I’m Meteorologist Dan Brounoff. We’re starting off in the 60s with clear skies this morning, and we’ll climb into the upper 80s this afternoon with fairly light winds. One thing to note: an Air Quality Alert is in effect today for the entire Dallas-Fort Worth area, so keep that in mind if you’ll be spending long periods outside.

Starting tomorrow and continuing through the weekend, the wind machine gets cranked up. Gusts could hit 35 mph at times, pulling Gulf moisture northward and bringing back those lovely low clouds each morning. (Because apparently North Texas likes to preheat before sunrise now. 🤷♂️)

Afternoon sunshine will send temperatures soaring. Areas west of Fort Worth could hit the low to mid 90s, with spots along Highway 281 flirting with the upper 90s. Meanwhile, Wichita Falls up toward the Panhandle may flirt with 100°. It’s May… not August… somebody forgot to tell Texas. 🥵

Our next weather change arrives late Sunday into early next week. A few storms could try to sneak in Sunday evening along the dryline west of DFW, but a strong cap should keep most of us quiet. Monday and Tuesday will depend heavily on the timing of the next cold front. If it arrives late afternoon or evening, severe weather could become an issue. If it rolls through Tuesday morning, the severe threat stays much lower. Either way, most of North Texas should see some rain by early next week.

The good news? Cooler air follows behind the front, with highs dropping back into the upper 70s by the middle of next week. Until then, enjoy the sunshine and warm weather… it’s the only weather you’ve got! 🌤️
