We're waking up to more moderate rain, but nothing severe at this time. The heaviest rain totals will fall along and south of interstate 20 through late morning. The rest of us will slowly start getting a break before then. All of us will get a break this afternoon into the early evening hours and then, severe weather moves in from the west.
Supercells will start to form along and west of a Wichita Falls to Abilene to San Angelo line late this afternoon through the evening hours. These will head east towards us by late this evening through the early morning hours. I'm hoping this will form into a big cluster of thunderstorms or what is called a MCS (mesoscale convective system), as it moves through during the early morning hours. This will lower the chances for large hail and tornadoes, but will increase the flooding threat. Either way, we're in for a lot of heavy rain and isolated severe weather through the early morning hours into Tuesday morning.
More storms will form closer to DFW tomorrow afternoon and evening, some of these will be severe. PLUS, MORE FLOODING RAIN.
Between now and Wednesday morning, average rainfall totals will be between 4"and 6" with close to 8" possible in isolated areas.
The Flash Flood Watch that runs until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, will most likely be extended through the end of the week. More scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible into the weekend.
Please stay weather aware, especially this evening through the early morning hours for severe weather and flash flooding.
