An active weather pattern is emerging across the state on Tuesday, including in North Texas. It will continue through Friday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated, with minimal severity.

Residents across North Texas, particularly in drought-stricken areas of West Texas and the Hill Country, will experience welcome rain soon. Two weather systems will alter the weather pattern across the state over the coming days, with some areas of South Texas and the mid and upper Texas coastal regions potentially receiving over half a foot of rain. Two to three inches of rainfall are expected in parts of North Texas.

The region experienced quiet conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging from the upper 40s to the upper 50s, clear skies, and a light wind. Ample sunshine is expected Tuesday, with afternoon highs reaching unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, potentially reaching 90 degrees.

The afternoon heat will contribute to thunderstorm development as a front moves into the area from the northeast and stalls across North Texas Tuesday night through Wednesday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop shortly after dinner time in southern Oklahoma and move southeast along the stationary front. Waves of showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop along the front overnight and through at least the first half of tomorrow. Residents living Southwest of the stalling front can expect minimal rainfall.

A line can be drawn from Wichita Falls to Decatur to Fort Worth to Waxahachie to Corsicana, with areas northeast of this line having the highest chances of heavy rain and thunder. Small hail and brief gusty winds are possible with stronger storms. Areas experiencing training thunderstorms starting this evening through tomorrow afternoon may receive over 2 inches of rain, leading to minor street flooding.

Storm chances will diminish by Wednesday afternoon, with mostly cloudy skies and some areas potentially reaching 80 degrees. The next weather change is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon and continue through noon Friday. A strong upper-level disturbance will move across South Texas during this period. The first chance of rain, including heavy rain at times, will arrive late Thursday and last through the evening. Some areas may receive an additional inch or two of rain. Severity is expected to remain low, with afternoon highs holding in the 70s.

A brief break in the rain is anticipated Thursday evening, followed by another wave of moderate rain moving through the area overnight into Friday noon, with embedded thunder. Severe storms are not a concern, and an additional inch of rain is possible in some areas.

Some areas along the Texas coast may receive at least half a foot of rain from this event, with 2-4 inches expected in parts of the Hill Country and at least an inch of rain in Far West Texas, which are among the worst drought-affected areas. The entire storm system will exit the state Friday evening, leading to a beautiful but warm weekend. The next cold front is expected to arrive Sunday, bringing minimal rain and dropping temperatures to near 70 for highs early next week.
