Isolated storms today and Friday, but a decent weekend to boot

North Texas 7-day forecast for Thursday, August 21, 2025
North Texas 7-day forecast for Thursday, August 21, 2025
National Weather Service

I hope you experienced some rainfall yesterday, as precipitation chances will begin to decrease today and tomorrow, and are expected to be negligible by the weekend. However, a significant cold front is anticipated to move into the area next week, bringing cooler temperatures and a chance of rain. This is a welcome development.

As we approach the weekend, temperatures have been relatively mild, with only five triple-digit temperatures recorded at DFW Airport, compared to the average by this time of the summer. We should appreciate this relatively mild summer.

Currently, temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 70s, with no precipitation on the radar. While a few scattered showers may develop during the morning, most areas will remain dry. Partly cloudy conditions are expected today, with highs reaching the mid-90s, which is near average for this time of year. Some areas may experience a late-day shower or thunderstorm between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday's forecast is similar, with partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures, and a chance of late-day showers.

Over the weekend and into Monday, the region will be under the influence of the eastern fringe of an upper-level high-pressure system, leading to afternoon highs in the mid-90s.

By Monday, temperatures may rise to the upper 90s to near 100 degrees, ahead of the next cold front, which is expected to arrive either late Monday or late Tuesday. Although the data is conflicting, I anticipate a Tuesday frontal passage. This will lead to increased shower and thunderstorm activity, followed by much cooler temperatures.

I predict a high of 90°F on Tuesday and 80°F on Wednesday, with a possibility of temperatures remaining in the 70s throughout the day, accompanied by a breezy north wind gusting up to 20 mph. This is unusual for late August. I will continue to monitor the timing of the front and provide updates. Some thunderstorms may be strong, and there is a risk of isolated flooding, depending on the front's trajectory and stagnation. Please stay informed.

Have a great day and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
