Enjoy the next couple of days because a lot of rain is heading to North Texas Friday into Saturday. Severity looks low right now, but it's something I will monitor as we approach Friday evening.
Happy hump day ladies and gentlemen! Hope you're enjoying the coolest morning so far this fall across North Texas. Many areas have fallen into the 40s! Grab your jacket, but you'll lose it by lunch time. Today will be a great day just like yesterday. We topped out at 81°. Today I'm forecasting a high of 82° average high is 76°. A south wind will slowly return, but will remain light.
Tomorrow morning's low temperatures won't be as cool, but many areas will still fall into the 50s. Afternoon highs will level off in the low to mid 80s as south winds pick up at 10 to 20 mph. This will bring Gulf moisture back into North Texas. There will be some showers and storms that will hit our northwest and northern counties Thursday evening into early Friday morning, but I think DFW and points south and east won't see a drop. Severity remains low but a few strong storms are possible for wind and small hail.
Southerly winds will continue to pump moisture in from the south on Friday as a very strong upper level disturbance slowly approaches from the west. There will be showers and storms moving in from the south by mid to late afternoon. A larger area of showers and strong storms will develop a couple hundred miles to our west by Friday early evening. This big area of rain will be moving across North Texas overnight into Saturday. A few storms may be strong with gusty wind and small hail possible. I'm more concerned about a heavy rain threat. I will monitor the National Weather Service for possible flood watches that may be issued. Afternoon highs on Friday will reach the low 80s.
The large area of rain will shift to the east of us by late morning Saturday, after dropping 1" to 3" of rain, but as the upper level low travels south of Oklahoma City on Saturday, another area of rain will wrap around the system and come across the area during the day. It won't be as widespread, but you'll still need your umbrella. An additional half inch of rain is possible. Afternoon highs will hold in the low 70s.
Sunday and Monday are fantastic with highs in the mid-70s on Sunday, low to mid 80s on Monday. It might even be warmer than that but we're talking day 6 so I'll keep you posted.
As of now, it looks like the next cold front, and it will be pretty strong, will move through the area the second half of Tuesday. There may be some storms forming along this front, but it's too early to tell you exactly where. Windy and much cooler weather will invade the area for Wednesday and Thursday. A lot of areas will dip into the 40s at night again, with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Please continue to follow my forecasts and updates over the next few days, as we finally have weather to talk about! Have a great day and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
