Welcome rain fell across parts of North Texas on Monday afternoon and evening. A few showers could sneak in Tuesday night, and then a thin line of showers and storms will form overnight. After that, chilly mornings and cool afternoons will be the rule ahead of the start of winter on Saturday.

DFW Airport recorded 1.37" of rain on Monday. Grapevine saw over 3 inches. Unfortunately, areas west of Interstate 35W didn't see a drop. There is one more rain chance late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.


Tuesday began with a mostly cloudy sky morning and temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-50s. It will be partly cloudy and mild with readings topping out into the mid to upper 60s. By Tuesday evening, a few scattered showers will develop, but most stay dry.

Our next cold front will arrive overnight. A thin line of showers and storms will develop after 2 a.m. along the Red River Valley and head south through DFW toward daybreak. Morning lows will be in the mid-60s but quickly fall into the upper 40s by late morning. Wednesday will be sunny, windy, and chilly with highs reaching the low to mid-50s by afternoon.

Thursday morning will see temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees, as north winds relax during the day. It will be sunny and cool with highs in the mid-50s. Fifty-seven is the average for this time of the year.

Friday morning, temperatures will fall back into the 30s, with highs in the mid-50s once again.

The weekend looks seasonably cool with morning lows in the 30s to low 40s with afternoon highs near 60 degrees. The winter solstice arrives at 4:27 a.m. Saturday.

No changes into Monday. Plenty of sunshine with highs and the low to mid 60s.
