A significant weather event impacted North Texas last night, bringing loud thunderstorms, flash flooding, and damaging wind reports. Fortunately, the storms have moved out of the region, at least for the time being.
Happy Monday. Last night's weather was particularly rough across parts of North Texas, with reported wind gusts reaching up to 80 mph, minimal hail, but widespread power outages. Both airports have returned to normal operations, but rainfall totals varied significantly, ranging from 0.86 inches at DFW to over 2 inches at Dallas Love. Some areas in southern Dallas County received as much as 3.5 inches of rain, prompting early morning flood warnings. The current temperature is in the upper 60s and is expected to rise to the mid-80s today under partly cloudy skies.
Later today, storms will begin forming in far West Texas and the South Plains, potentially reaching DFW by daybreak tomorrow in a non-severe state. Morning lows will dip into the upper 60s to low 70s.
On Tuesday, scattered morning rain will give way to partly cloudy skies by afternoon, with highs reaching the mid-80s and no rain. However, more storms, some severe, will develop west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area Tuesday evening, arriving before daybreak on Wednesday. This may bring gusty winds, flash flooding, and significant noise by Wednesday morning.
Storms will subside by Wednesday afternoon, with highs reaching the low 80s. A similar scenario will unfold in West Texas and the South Plains late Wednesday evening, with storms moving east into North Texas before daybreak on Thursday. Some of these storms may become severe, with highs reaching the low 80s again. More storms will form Thursday afternoon and evening. Some may become severe.
With a weakness in the upper levels and temperatures approaching 90°F on Friday, additional scattered storms may develop across North Texas.
While the weekend is expected to be hot and humid, the chance of showers and storms will be isolated. A drying trend is anticipated to begin this weekend and continue into the following week, accompanied by high humidity.
Enjoy the remainder of today's humid weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
