We finally achieved this milestone! DFW Airport reached 100° yesterday. Typically, we should experience 20 triple-digit temperatures in a calendar year. Let's add two more to the count today and tomorrow, shall we?
I'm glad everyone can return to a sense of normalcy now that we've hit 100°. We're going to reach or exceed this mark by a few degrees over the next couple of days, as this ridge of high pressure continues to grip the area. Heat advisories are in effect for today, as well as an air quality alert. We're expecting a repeat of this forecast for tomorrow. Some areas might reach 103 degrees Thursday, as a cold front approaches by evening. A few scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across the Northwestern half of North Texas.
Friday's frontal position will determine who sees a better chance for showers and storms. Right now, it looks like most of us have a pretty decent shot. Severity will remain low, but dangerous lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds are the threats. The hail threat is very low. Afternoon highs will struggle to get above 90°. Many weather apps might indicate mid to upper 90s. We'll see who is accurate.
As of now, it appears that the best chance for scattered showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday will be along and south of Interstate 20. Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s on Saturday, mid-90s on Sunday. We have one more chance for showers and storms Monday morning, as a complex dives out of Oklahoma. I give us a 30% chance of seeing some storms Monday morning, with the greatest chances in the Arklatex. Afternoon highs Monday will reach the mid-90s again.
After our brief break, high pressure will build back across the state Tuesday through the rest of next week, with temperatures approaching 100° again. Enjoy! It's August!
That's all I've got! Have a terrific day and please enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
