A powerful storm system exited North Texas on Wednesday morning, with gusty winds and colder air lingering throughout the day. Overnight lows will plummet, potentially causing pipes to burst, while below-average temperatures persist through Friday. A brief warm-up is anticipated on Saturday, followed by another cold snap.
Heavy rain and thunder moved through the area overnight and prompted brief flood advisories for Dallas and Tarrant counties, although no severe weather was reported. This rain will shift eastward into East Texas.
Another cold front will reinforce the chilly air, bringing strong north winds and tumbling temperatures. Afternoon highs on Wednesday will struggle to reach the low 40s, before dropping into the mid-20s overnight under clear skies, with wind chills in the low teens.
Thursday will remain cold, with sunshine and afternoon highs in the low 40s, below the average high for this time of year. Following a light freeze on Friday morning, temperatures will rebound, reaching the low to mid-50s. However, clouds will increase Friday night, with a chance of showers through Saturday morning.
A significant warm-up is expected by Saturday afternoon, with temperatures soaring into the mid-70s. Another strong cold front will move through the area by Saturday evening, causing temperatures to plummet into the 20s by Sunday morning.
Gusty northerly winds will make for a chilly Sunday, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-40s and wind chills in the 30s. Following another freeze on Monday morning, temperatures will rebound into the low to mid-50s.
Increasing clouds on Tuesday will bring a chance of rain, with afternoon highs reaching 60 degrees before another Arctic blast drops temperatures into the 20s by Wednesday morning.
