We are still awaiting a significant cold front this fall, and it appears we will have to wait until the end of next week and into the following weekend for cooler temperatures to arrive. Welcome to Texas, ladies and gentlemen.
It's almost Friday, and I'm taking tomorrow off, as there are no significant weather events anticipated over the next nine days. A robust high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere will deflect storm systems north of Texas through the weekend and most of next week. As sinking air compresses and heats up, the loss of two to three minutes of daylight daily this time of year will not impact temperatures. Eventually, it will cool down, I assure you.
Temperatures are currently in the 60s across northern Texas under a mostly clear sky. Today will be sunny and warm, with highs approaching 90 degrees and light winds from the east-northeast. This forecast will remain consistent through Friday, the weekend, and most of next week, with morning lows ranging from 65 to 70 degrees and afternoon highs reaching or slightly exceeding 90 degrees.
One notable change will occur Sunday through next week, as wind speeds increase, with gusty southerly winds up to 25 to 30 miles per hour expected. This will provide some relief from the heat in shaded areas. Please stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
If attending the Texas OU game on Saturday, dress in light colors, and be prepared for a kickoff temperature of around 86 degrees, warming up to near 90 degrees by the end of the game.
Extended data suggests our first significant fall cold front may arrive by the end of next week and into the following weekend, bringing afternoon highs near 80 degrees, close to average, and morning lows in the 50s across much of the area. However, it is still too early to determine if this front will bring rain. Please stay tuned for updates.
Have a great day, and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
