No more Arctic air for the foreseeable future

Last week was exceptionally cold with lingering frozen precipitation. This week, temperatures are expected to be above average, with only a slight chance of showers during the first half of Tuesday, marking a 180-degree change in our weather pattern.

Good morning, and welcome to another Monday. We are waking up to seasonal temperatures this morning, with readings in the mid to upper 30s and a light wind. A jacket will be necessary when stepping outside. Clouds will increase throughout the day, with afternoon highs reaching well into the sixties.

You will wake up tomorrow morning to temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s, which is well above average for this time of year. There is a slight chance of showers during the first half of the day tomorrow; however, the most significant rainfall will be well to the east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Temperatures will remain seasonally warm, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-60s.

Our next cold front will be weak and will arrive sometime tomorrow afternoon, dropping temperatures back into the 30s for Wednesday morning. Wednesday is expected to be delightful, with plenty of sunshine and seasonable temperatures. Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 50s.

After a chilly start on Thursday morning, with temperatures near freezing in some areas, temperatures will rebound nicely, reaching well into the 60s by afternoon. West winds will blow at 5 to 15 mph.

The forecast for Friday through the weekend looks favorable, with afternoon highs in the 70s and morning lows in the 50s, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

As you may have inferred from the discussion above, the polar jet stream will be absent across the Lone Star state, and all Arctic air will be pushed into the eastern third of the United States. Additionally, our subtropical jet stream, which brings storm systems through the desert Southwest and then to North Texas, will be inactive, except for the first half of Tuesday. This subtropical jet stream may become more active by the beginning of next week, bringing welcome rain to the area, rather than snow or ice.

There is no polar vortex or stratospheric warming in our forecast for the foreseeable future. Do not believe the hype.

Have a terrific day today, and please enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
