Windy, warm, and “where did my allergy medicine go?” weather is settling into North Texas through the weekend before storm chances return early next week.
Good morning everyone! Meteorologist Dan Brounoff here in the KRLD Weather Center. Hope you’ve had a great week so far — we’re officially entering the “hair-doesn’t-stand-a-chance” portion of May thanks to those gusty south winds.
Here’s the setup:
Plenty of sunshine today with highs near 90.
Low 90s stick around Friday through the weekend.
South winds return today with gusts up to 25 mph, then crank up to around 30 to 35 mph Friday into the weekend. Patio furniture and pets under 5 pounds may attempt to relocate to Oklahoma.
Allergy sufferers… tomorrow may be a “double-dose and pray” kind of day.
As for rain chances, a few showers are possible Friday morning and then again by evening. Most storms through the weekend should stay west of Fort Worth and head into Oklahoma — if they form at all. A strong cap remains in place across North Texas, but I can’t completely rule out a few storms trying to sneak into the I-35W corridor by Sunday evening.
Our next real weather change arrives late Monday into Tuesday as a cold front slowly approaches North Texas.
The timing of that front will determine how rowdy things get:
• If it moves in Monday evening or Tuesday afternoon/evening, severe storms are possible with all modes of severe weather on the table.
• If it arrives later Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, the severe threat looks lower and would mainly be a wind event.
I’ll have a much better handle on timing and severity once the short-range model data comes into focus this weekend.
Temperatures: • Monday: near 90 • Tuesday: upper 80s • Wednesday: possibly low 80s behind the front… IF the front actually behaves itself.
Some data still wants to stall that front nearby and push it back north, which could keep us warm and stormy through the end of next week with additional shower and thunderstorm chances.
And honestly… we’ll take the rain. A wetter May can help keep June and July from turning into the surface of the sun.
Have a great day and enjoy the weather while you can — it’s the only weather you’ve got!
