Not much rain for north Texas; cooler weather next week

Well, it looks like rain, it smells like rain, and we will see a little bit of rain across North Texas today through mid-morning Saturday. Unfortunately, rainfall totals in our backyard will most likely remain below a quarter of an inch. Once again, the western half of the Lone Star State is stealing most of the much-needed rainfall as we work our way through the middle of fall.

Good morning, everyone! We're waking up to mostly cloudy skies with just a few light sprinkles across the area.

Temperatures are hovering in the mid to upper 60s, running about 10 to 12 degrees above average for this time of year.
There is some rain lurking off to our southwest, and it will gradually move into North Texas throughout the day. However, don't expect much in the way of rainfall. The clouds and occasional showers will keep temperatures in check, with afternoon highs topping out in the low 70s.
Meanwhile, moisture associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Vance will continue moving across the western half of Texas. Flood watches remain in effect through this evening. If you're traveling west of Abilene or northwest toward Wichita Falls to get an early start on the weekend, use extra caution. There is rain showing up on radar in those areas, along with some showers farther south toward Austin and San Antonio.

Speaking of Austin, I know the Texas Longhorns have a game down there. The weather should cooperate nicely, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. That's certainly better than dealing with 98 degrees!

**HALLOWEEN FORECAST**

Halloween is almost here! Fortunately, most of the rain we see will remain east of North Texas and should move out before trick-or-treating gets underway Saturday evening. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s around trick-or-treat time, making for some pretty comfortable Halloween weather.

**DON'T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK!**

Sunday morning, we get that extra hour of sleep back that we lost last March. The weather looks pretty nice, too! We'll see some sunshine, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the low 80s.

**NEXT WEEK'S WEATHER**

Our next storm system will begin approaching North Texas Monday afternoon and evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop as the system moves through the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

At this point, severe weather does not appear to be a major concern for North Texas. However, the latest forecast data suggests the storm system could intensify farther east and southeast of our area Monday evening. The greatest severe weather potential currently appears to be across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, where watches may eventually be needed.

Behind the front, windy and cooler conditions will move into North Texas on Tuesday. Skies will rapidly clear, but winds will be gusting between 35 and 40 mph. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the low 70s.

The wind will continue into Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures only reaching the 50s before we gradually begin warming back up toward the end of next week.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween weekend! Enjoy that extra hour of sleep Sunday morning.
