One more day of rain chances, then the faucets shut off

North Texas Forecast for Tuesday, July 15, 2025
North Texas Forecast for Tuesday, July 15, 2025
National Weather Service

One more day of scattered shower and thunderstorm chances remains before a period of dry weather commences, as high pressure in the upper levels builds across North Texas into the weekend, persisting into the next week.

The unusual weather pattern for mid-July continues for one more day, characterized by below-average temperatures and above-average precipitation chances. A mid-level circulation currently in the Western Hill Country will track north-northeast throughout the day and evening, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms sneaking in from the south as temperatures rise into the low to mid-90s this afternoon. I anticipate 30% coverage across North Texas, diminishing after sunset.

A high-pressure system in the upper levels, previously located to our east, will begin to build westward and cover North Texas by the end of the week and into the weekend, shutting off rain chances and initiating a warm-up. I'm forecasting the middle 90s from tomorrow through Friday.

A disturbance currently east of Florida in the western Atlantic is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center, with a 40% chance of developing into a named storm by the weekend. If it develops, it will be named Dexter, although it is not expected to intensify significantly. The system will continue to move westward until it curves northward, likely in Louisiana, this weekend, keeping the best rain chances in far eastern Texas. I will continue to monitor this situation.

Based on current data, I am maintaining a dry forecast for North Texas on Saturday and Sunday, as moisture from this disturbance remains in eastern Texas and the Mississippi River Valley. Afternoon highs this weekend will reach the mid-90s, with some upper 90s possible west of Fort Worth.

A strengthening ridge of high pressure next week will keep our region hot and dry, potentially leading to our first triple-digit temperature. Stay tuned! Pray for Texas, y'all!
