Summer will officially commence Friday evening, and the forthcoming months will indeed reflect this seasonal transition. A pronounced ridge of high pressure in the upper atmospheric levels will predominantly influence our weather for at least the next seven days, yielding morning lows in the 70s and afternoon highs in the middle 90s. Upon factoring in humidity, the heat index will approach 103°F for the foreseeable future. Although scattered showers and storms may attempt to infiltrate the southeast during the weekend and early next week, it is unlikely they will penetrate the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A potential pattern shift in approximately ten days may usher showers and storms back into the region. Further updates will follow.
Notably, hurricane season is underway, and a Category 4 hurricane "ERICK" in the Eastern Pacific is advancing toward the southern shores of Mexico, situated over a hundred miles southeast of Acapulco. Fortunately, Acapulco will experience an offshore wind as the storm makes landfall eastward. The storm's landfall in a sparsely populated area of Mexico is also a positive development.
Eric's moisture will subsequently traverse Mexico and enter the southwestern United States next week, potentially providing relief to the drought-stricken areas of far west Texas. However, our region will not receive precipitation from this system.
Following a tumultuous spring, the forecast appears relatively straightforward. As we enter the first day of summer, DFW Airport will have accumulated a surplus of approximately 1.25 inches of rainfall, contributing to temperatures below 100°F for the time being.
Have a pleasant day and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got.
