Rain is back in your 7-day forecast

Rain is back in your 7-day forecast

Our weather will become more active again starting today and continue off and on through the upcoming weekend.

We have a few weather features that will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. The first arrives this afternoon as a cold front backs in from the northeast. Combined with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s, this will help produce scattered showers and storms across about 40% of the area. That means roughly 60% of you won't see a drop of rain.

Any stronger storm could produce frequent lightning, brief gusty winds, and perhaps some quarter-size hail, although most storms will remain below severe limits. If you see hail at all, it should be fairly small.

The front slides south of the area by late afternoon and especially this evening.

For Wednesday and Thursday, scattered late-day showers and storms remain possible, but coverage drops to around 20%. Temperatures will also be a little cooler, with highs mainly in the upper 80s.

As we head into Friday and especially this weekend, an upper-level low moving through northern Mexico may become trapped across the western half of Texas. If that scenario develops, we'll see showers and thunderstorms form during the peak heating hours of the afternoon as temperatures reach around 90 degrees.

These storms could produce frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and brief gusty winds. Again, many locations may not see any rain at all through the weekend, but rain chances will remain in the forecast.

Have a wonderful day today, and enjoy the weather when you can—it's the only weather you've got!
