Rain chances are gone for a while, but the heat is here to stay

North Texas Forecast for August 5, 2025
North Texas Forecast for August 5, 2025
National Weather Service

I hope you appreciated the welcome rain over the past couple of days because a prolonged period of dry and hot weather is imminent. Indeed, it is August.

Happy Tuesday! It is certainly pleasant to commence the month with a surplus of rainfall for the month and the year. We can attribute this to a weak front and a northwesterly flow, which brought us welcome rain over the past couple of days. Unfortunately, high pressure in the upper levels will start to build into the area through the week and into the weekend, causing temperatures to rise to seasonal norms or slightly above. The average high temperature at this time of year is 97 degrees and will remain so until mid-August. Thereafter, we will gradually cool down as we approach fall in September.

We are waking up to comfortable temperatures, with readings in the low to mid-70s. Today will feature plenty of sunshine, with highs in the mid-90s. Expect a similar forecast for Wednesday.

High pressure will continue to dominate our weather Thursday through the weekend, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 90s. Heat index values will be around 103 degrees.

By late Sunday and Monday, shower and thunderstorm activity will increase to our northwest. As of now, it appears that the rain will stay away from North Texas. Please note that this is day 6 and 7 of my 7-day forecast, and it is subject to change. I hope to be able to add scattered showers and storms to all of North Texas, but as of now, it seems doubtful.

Do not worry; before you know it, we will see our first cold front by the end of September or early October. HA! Although it seems far away now, it will arrive quickly.

Have a terrific day today, and please stay hydrated. Always appreciate the weather when you can, as it is the only weather we've got!
